The grandiose Aida moved and thrilled over three thousand spectators from all over the world in the Arena in Pula in the July of 2018. This is why we are bringing it back to the spectacular setting of the antique Arena.
It is this summer again that brilliant singers who have captivated European and world stages, led by the temperamental conductor, the “flying Finn” Ville Matvejeff, are creating for you the experience of the ancient Egypt in the fascinating setting of the antique Roman architecture.
Many consider Aida to be the most spectacular of operas. This work of the famous Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi, who is considered to be one of the most popular and influential opera composers of all times even today, was premiered in the Egyptian capital of Kairo on 24 December 1871. The Croatian premiere took place in Zagreb on 1 December 1881, while the one in Rijeka on 3 December 1885 to mark the inauguration of the Rijeka Theatre building.
Aida is a tragic tale of forbidden love of Aida, the Ethiopian princess and Egyptian slave, and Radamès, the young Egyptian army leader, who have to choose between love and loyalty to their countries.
Opera sung in Italian, surtitles in Croatian and English.
The performance lasts about three hours, with an interval after Act II.
